"I
am a “bear in winter” and stay indoors,
but I do feel the weather and the time of day.
Late afternoon is the best time for me to paint.
A heavy overcast sky, a snowfall or a dark sky
all say something to me that I want to express.
February brings more light and more blue sky.
By March I am predictably restless and hallucinate
warm breezes on bare skin. Then April –
especially this year’s glorious month –
brings daffodils and peony buds and bird songs
in the mornings. My body can relax finally, take
warmth from the sun and be thankful. Flowers are
for thankfulness."
