Arthur DiMambro began painting in the 1950’s. Throughout his distinguished career as an orthopedic surgeon, painting was his ongoing creative outlet. Since his retirement in 1991, he has been a full-time artist, developing a strong reputation throughout the region for his bold, gutsy paintings – intuitive still lifes and interpretations of the land and the sea that teeter on the edge of abstraction.

"DiMambro’s work has been exhibited throughout New England. Along with a solo show at the gWatson Gallery in Stonington, Maine (1996), his group exhibitions include the Lamont Gallery at Phillips Exeter Academy, Exeter, N.H. (1965); The Fishing Show at the Addison Gallery of American Art, Andover, Mass. (1969); The Great Bay: A Visual History at the University of New Hampshire (1970); and The Baseball Show at the Gallery on the Green in Lexington, Mass. (1989). He is a long-time member of the New Hampshire Art Association, participating in their Annual Juried Exhibition at the Currier Gallery of Art in Manchester, NH from 1970 to 1995 and winning the Rosamund deKalb Award in 1975 and 1984. At the New Hampshire Art Association’s Robert Lincoln Levy Gallery in Portsmouth, his work has been included in annual group exhibitions from 1991 to the present; he earned the Lassond Award in 1998. His presence in Maine has blossomed through inclusions in shows in 1995 and 1998-2001 at the George Marshall Store Gallery in York, as well as a summer 2001 exhibition at gWatson Gallery in Stonington."
