CAROLINA ARAGON
"Throughout my design career I have been fascinated by our perception of natural phenomena. Most of my work has focused on site-specific installations (both indoor and outdoor) that are inspired by atmospheric conditions of the area. These works have tried to answer questions such as to how to build a cloud or how to build the water’s surface. In my paintings, I concentrate on the intricacies of patterns found in nature and how these come alive through the use of color and repetition. In them, the surface is not treated as a sacred flat surface but is cut and sometimes woven to evoke images of living landscapes filled with a sense of depth and movement. The works exhibited in this show explore the multiple perceptions of a piece. The three-dimensional quality of them is meant to increase the surface by which a painting is expressed. Through changes in patterns and colors, these paintings encourage the viewer to become engaged from multiple angles to reveal different compositions.
Carolina holds a Master’s Degree in Landscape Architecture from Harvard University. She has received wide acclaim for her installations, paintings and scultpture. She resides in Cambridge, MA.
