SUSAN ROOD
"My images come from within. I do not start with a preconceived vision. To begin the process, I draw quickly and spontaneously. I have sketchbook journals filled with drawings. The figures I draw frequently reappear. They suggest stories that relate to issues in my life. However, I hope that they have a universal quality as well. The narrative for the viewer may not be the same as it is for me.
After I select a drawing to use for a print, the spontaneous process of creation ends. The drawing may be reworked many times before it is carved into a linoleum block. The process of printmaking is almost antithetical to that which is used for the preliminary drawing. The final image implies the duality of artistic expression where inner and outer worlds can meet."
Susan lives and works in Connecticuit. She exhibits her work in New England and New York and is a member of a printmakers' cooperative in Kent.
